JJ Holland Park | Kensington

J J Holland Park is named after John Joseph Holland, a former Labor parliamentarian who campaigned for the development of social welfare schemes.

Holland Park, as it is commonly called, is freehold land owned by the City of Melbourne and was originally developed throughout the 1960s as part of a project to transform "Seagull Swamp" in South Kensington.

The Park itself covers approximately 10 hectares, is triangular shaped and is positioned on flat land.

It is home to a number of important community facilities, namely the Kensington Community and Recreation Centre and heated pool, Extreme Sports Facility and BMX track, sports pavilion, sporting ovals and soccer field, childcare facility, playgrounds and picnic and barbeque areas.

Council endorsed a concept plan in 1998. It guides the long term redevelopment of the Park's horticultural and recreational assets.

An enclosure over the heated swimming pool has now been completed.

Features include a Skate Park

Getting there:

Take the St Albans/Williamstown/Werribee Train Line, get off at South Kensington Station.

Take the Broadmeadows Train Line, get off at Kensington Station and head west down Macaulay Road and south down Kensington Road.
