Gilbert Toyne's Wonderful Washing Invention

If your answer to the trivia question, "Who invented the rotary clothes hoist?" was Lance Hill, then you will have to return your prize!

Gilbert Toyne, a local Geelong farrier and wheelwright, first patented his Aeroplane Rotary Clothes Hoist in 1911, well before the Hills hoist came into being.

This play celebrates an Australian icon, its inventor, and all the rituals of washing day.

Most excitingly, the performance will take place in what was the Toyne family home in Rippleside, where an original 1923 patented clothes hoist is still in use today.

It's a wonderful piece of Australia's history.

Written and directed by Rosan Chakir.
