Camberwell Chorale: Two French Masters, Fauré and Saint-Saëns
Celebrating 75 years, the Camberwell Chorale's first concert for 2019 focuses on the choral music of two French masters - Fauré and Saint-Saëns.
The programme includes Fauré's much loved Requiem and his Cantique de Jean Racine - works that have captured the affections of choirs and audiences alike - and Saint-Saëns Messe de Requiem. Well-known for his opera Samson and Delilah, and his orchestral works such as his Organ Symphony and Carnival of the Animals, Saint-Saen's setting of the Requiem, which is rarely performed, is a fine example of late 19th century French romanticism, rich in orchestral colour and expressive, lyrical melodies.
The soloists are Lauren Oldham, Kerrie Bolton, Michael Lapina and Manfred Pohlenz.
