Twenty Melbourne Painters Society Inc. 101st Annual Exhibition Glen Eira City Council Art Gallery Free admission Jenny Pihan Fine Art & the TWENTY MELBOURNE PAINTERS SOCIETY Inc. Est.1918 Uniquely Melbourne If last year's centenary blockbuster crowds are any indication as to the resurgence and popularity of Realist art and its exciting classical traditions, then the upcoming 101st annual exhibition of the Twenty Melbourne Painters Society is certain to generate even more enthusiasm among the art loving public, collectors and connoisseurs alike as the Society proudly enters its second century. From a rebellious group of artists who broke away from the Victorian Artists Society and set themselves up as an independent body in 1918, this unique group of professional artists have numbered among its members many of those pictorial glitterati and pioneers of Australian art. These masters include Rupert Bunny, Clarice Beckett, Sir William Dargie, George Bell, Max Meldrum to name but a few. The TMPS asserts that this fact is proof positive that a painterly aesthetic grounded in a scholarly approach, where the vital classical disciplines of painting such as tone, form, colour and drawing are not only valued but seen as necessary to the foundations for all masterly pictorial art and the key to its longevity and popularity. This year's exhibition will feature works of excellence in Tonal Realism and Impressionism for the enjoyment of gallery visitors.
