Montsalvat is proud to welcome back Trio Anima Mundi in 2020 with a series of concerts by the international award-winning ensemble.

Trio Anima Mundi presents their thirteenth subscription series season - The Reissiger Project - in 2020. Following the overwhelming response to their performance of Carl Gottlieb Reissiger's first Piano Trio in 2019, Trio Anima Mundi formally continues to embrace their 'Piano Trio Archaeology' mission of presenting rarely-heard works from the piano trio repertoire by featuring three further trios by Reissiger in their 2020 series.

Concert 1 - Saturday March 21, 2pm
Concert 2 - Saturday June 20, 2pm
Concert 3 - Saturday October 17, 2pm

Concert 1 - Relative Harmonies, juxtaposes three compositions which are constructed around the same relative tonal centres of A Major and F-sharp minor. The romantic melodies of the Reissiger Fourth Trio and the elegance of the Celtic Prelude are contrasted superbly by the dramatic language of Armenian composer Babajanian

Carl Gottlieb Reissiger
Piano Trio No.4, Op.56

Rutland Boughton
Celtic Prelude

Arno Babajanian
Trio in F-sharp Minor

Barn Gallery, Saturday March 21, 2pm - 3pm

Concert 2 - The Salieri Connection, presents the work of two composers whose careers were linked by a common figure - Antonio Salieri. Both Reissiger and Beethoven spent time under the tutelage of Salieri, a formidable figure in the Viennese music scene of the time.

Carl Gottlieb Reissiger
Piano Trio Op.186

Ludwig van Beethoven
Piano Trio Op.1, No.3, in C Minor

Barn Gallery, Saturday June 20, 2pm - 3pm

Concert 3 - Poems of Passion, brings the 2020 series to a close by combining unlikely programmatic bedfellows - drawing upon the two early piano trios of Russians Rachmaninoff and Shostakovich alongside Reissiger's 18th Piano Trio.

Sergei Rachmaninoff
Trio Elegiaque No.1

Dmitri Shostakovich
Piano Trio No.1

Carl Gottlieb Reissiger
Piano Trio No.18, Op.188

Barn Gallery, Saturday October 17, 2pm - 3pm
