Tim Storrier | Exhibition
|TIM STORRIER October 18th to November 17th 2017 at Jon Cecil Fine Art, Red Hill.|
Tim Storrier's stunning lithographs have literally set the art world on fire. Earning the respect of the art world in 1968 at nineteen by being the youngest ever recipient of the Sulman Prize, Storrier collected it again in 1984. More recently, in 2015 he won the seminal Archibald Prize with his haunting and faceless self-portrait 'The Histrionic Wayfarer'.
Perhaps his best known images are the 'Blaze Line' series which appeared in the early 1980s, and symbolise much that is familiar about the Australian landscape and extremes of flood, fire and vast distances. This stunning new exhibition of lithographs, many drawn from the personal collection of Tim's collaborator and master printer Fred Genis, explore Storrier's most celebrated themes from one of the most successful and idiosyncratic careers in Australian art.
Storrier's early childhood on his family's outback property influenced his artistic style which is comparable to artists of the European Romantic movement, such as Joseph Mallard William Turner, who were attracted to subjects that inspire awe, or even terror. Storrier's burning landscape expanses, tumultuous seas, zips of flame and newspapers hurtling into space provide truly awesome spectacles in the context of global warming and climate change.
