Free live music Sunset Sounds is a series of free Sunday evening live music concerts across the City of Stonnington's beautiful parks and gardens in January 2019. The three events will combine some of Australia's best-loved musical talent with food from some of Melbourne's favourite food trucks. Guests can expect a wide range of artists, spanning genres and generations, ensuring there's something for everyone. Victoria Gardens, Sunday 6 January, 6-8pm Central Park, Sunday 13 January, 6-8pm Malvern Gardens, 20 January, 6-8pm Sunset Sounds at Victoria Gardens Vaudeville Smash supported by The Seven Ups Date: Sunday 6 January 2019 Time: 6-8pm Location: Victoria Gardens, Prahran PBS DJ Lyndelle Wilkinson will be spinning tunes from 5pm Vaudeville Smash Since their first gig at Fitzroy's Bar Open in September 2009, Vaudeville Smash have carved their own niche, building a formidable following in their hometown of Melbourne and around the world. An explosion of funk, flute, sax, synth and groove, the dance floor is packed at a Vaudeville Smash gig. Made up of three brothers and two mates, no other Australian band sounds like 'em. The Seven Ups Blending influences from 1970s Nigerian Afrobeat with the deepest of street Funk, The Seven Ups are the original 7-piece party band out of Melbourne. Expect unrestrained solos by unkempt horns over an unpretentious rhythm section. Sunset Sounds at Central Park Thando supported by The Meltdown Date: Sunday 13 January 2019 Time: 6-8pm Location: Central Park, Malvern East PBS DJ Maddy Mac will be spinning tunes from 5pm Thando Zimbabwean born and Melbourne based singer-songwriter, Thando, has been gracing stages around Australia with her electric presence and powerhouse vocals. Heralded as a commanding performer, her ability to tell a story takes her audience on a journey of loving oneself and reflection. The songstress grew up feasting on the musical offerings of Ladysmith, Black Mambazo, QUEEN and TLC. Along the way, she found Jill Scott and crafted her genre bending sound with an electric live set. The Meltdown This stellar band bring a blend of Stax and Motown with a healthy dose of the Nashville songwriting tradition. Making the song the focus, The Meltdown stay true to the story and keep your attention on the soaring voice of Simon Burke. Their debut self-titled record was released in 2017 to great critical acclaim, followed by a run of sold out shows and festival appearances. Sunset Sounds at Malvern Gardens Horns of Leroy featuring Shannen Wick, supported by The Twoks Date: Sunday 20 January 2019 Time: 6-8pm Location: Malvern Gardens, Malvern PBS DJ Maddy Mac will be spinning tunes from 5pm Horns of Leroy featuring Shannen Wick Inspired by the flavours of New Orleans to Fitzroy, this punked-out seven piece raucous street band take brass band music to a whole new level. From humble beginnings, the band has evolved from playing the streets of Melbourne to some of the biggest festivals and stages across the country. Whether you love them for their New Orleans inspired street parties or their raucous stage shows, Horns of Leroy always deliver and have earned themselves a reputation to match. Horns of Leroy will be joined by powerhouse soul vocalist Shannen Wick. The Twoks The Twoks are Xani Kolac (electric violin/vocals) and Mark Leahy (drums). The duo have been making violin and drums dance/pop music on the arty fringes of Melbourne for the past six years. With influences like Sigur Ros, Phoenix, Andrew Bird and Pat Benatar, this duo is an eclectic mix of dark and bright, art and pop.
