Soundtrack Sessions: Songs of Pulp Fiction

Arts Centre Melbourne and Grows on Trees present
Soundtrack Sessions: Songs of Pulp Fiction

Quentin Tarantino's breakout black comedy Pulp Fiction didn't just change the face of cinema - it reinvented the role of a movie soundtrack. From the opening guitar howl of Dick Dale's Misirlou to the infectious funk of Kool and the Gang's Jungle Boogie, this was a film that made music a character in itself, leading us by the ears through a hilarious and macabre Los Angeles underworld of mobsters and madmen.

The Meltdown are Melbourne's coolest purveyors of radioactive gospel, and together with guest artists Loretta Miller and Benny Walker they're sinking their southern soul fangs into a soundtrack as juicy as a Royale with Cheese. Wrap your head around tracks like Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon and Son of a Preacher Man, and just try not to twist like Uma Thurman when Chuck Berry's You Never Can Tell gets firing. An anarchic mix of dirty rock 'n' roll, screaming surf, unironic pop and cool-as-hell soul, this is a lineup of songs that will take you back to one of the defining moments in modern Hollywood history.

'One of the world's coolest mixtapes' - Rolling Stone

Some soundtracks are as famous as the films they spring from. Arts Centre Melbourne's new Soundtrack Sessions offer a sonic celebration of the playlists that escaped the screen to sear their way.
