THE MUSICCamille One of the very first artists SFSC brought to Australia, and certainly one of our most beloved, Camille Dalmais put French experimental pop under the spotlight with her 2006 hit and Triple J Hottest 100 #26 track, ‘Ta Douleur’. As if that wasn’t enough, she’s also performed with another close SFSC family member, Nouvelle Vague. Now with seven albums under her fashionable belt, a number of movie soundtrack accolades, and a infamously out-of-body-experience-like performance style that has seen her be referred to as a “one-woman choir”, who “howls like wolf and gallops like a horse”, we felt it was about time she made a return to the SFSC stage, non? Yelle Club Party For the last decade, it’s been hard to go anywhere (well, anywhere worth going) in France without hearing a least one track by Dada pop trio Yelle, also the stage name of frontwoman Julie Budet goes by. Loved by inner pop and EDM circles worldwide, Yelle is one of the very few French acts to have been invited to play at Coachella three times over, not to mention, having opened for Katy Perry on her UK California Dreams Tour. With stomping, uplifting electronic beats and a colourful, hypnotic art-pop stage presence (Budet’s kaleidoscopic outfits are always a highlight!), this band promises to bring high colour and energy to SFSC19. Clara Luciani Sultry, sexy and highly charismatic, this Marseilles-born artist is cut from the same cloth as SFSC icons like Françoise Hardy, Jane Birkin, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Emilie Simon; and not just in her kohl-rimmed eyes, vintage styling and heavy-fringed brunette looks. And if she appears familiar to SFSC fans, that could be because she was once part of SFSC alumn La Femme too. With an indie-like sound that carries a heavy, danceable groove (thanks to her love of cool basslines) and a stage presence that is nothing but magnetic, this self-confessed pleasurist is heralding a new revolution in French pop right now and a welcome addition to our SFSC19 line-up. Cléa Vincent Having cut her teeth performing at Parisian open mic nights, jazz clubs and as a student of the city’s famed Arpel Jazz School, Cléa Vincent is a charming, cool and incredibly talented artist we’re proud to have on the SFSC19 lineup. With influences as wides as the oceans between us and France – from Kylie Minogue to Madonna and Edith Piaf, this beloved Parisian pop star has the kind of talent that can see her switch from a bossa-nova beat to a soaring ballad and into a cool indie-rock groove. The question is, what will she perform this summer? One for all those Yé-Yé lovers out there to take note of.
