The sonorous sounds of the viola anchor both works in this program featuring MSO musician Fiona Sargeant. Hindemith's concerto-based on German folk song- portrays a travelling medieval musician.
Brahms' Second Serenade-having no violins in the orchestration-brings out the rich sounds of the lower voices of the orchestra in an intimate setting.
