Mount Macedon ANZAC Day Dawn Service 2020
The Mt Macedon ANZAC Day Dawn Service is one of the largest dawn services of remembrance held in Victoria.
Its purpose is to recognise our servicemen and servicewomen:
To honour their sacrifice and, to salute their service, and to learn from the price they paid
The service includes a military catafalque party, a welcome address, songs, prayers, wreath laying, the traditional Last Post and Reveille bugle calls, the National Anthem, and if the weather permits sunrise and an aerial salute ( fly-past)!
The service is held at the Mt Macedon Memorial Cross which is considered one of the most significant war memorials in Victoria. It is located on the summit of Mt Macedon in central Victoria. See DAWN SERVICE
The service commences at 5.45AM on ANZAC Day, 25th April each year. As a large number of people attend we recommend that you plan to travel much earlier to arrive around/before 5:15am. The service has a duration of about one hour. See How? below.
We encourage anyone to participate in the service - those currently serving and those who have served and all members of their families, residents of the Macedon Ranges area and anyone interested. We particularly encourage children to attend to experience a remembrance service.
Please contact us for details of disabled access.
NO PRIVATE VEHICLE ACCESS - FREE Bus services. Please note that for road safety reasons Cameron Drive (the only vehicle access to the service) will be closed to all traffic except buses and emergency services. Bus services operate from Gisborne, Woodend, Sunbury, Kyneton, Riddells Creek, Lancefield, Romsey and Macedon (Tony Clarke Recreational Reserve Waterfalls Rd Macedon) from 4.15AM. BOOKINGS ESSENTIAL. See DAWN SERVICE
Participation is free, although we do appreciate a gold coin donation from those using the bus services. The Dawn Service is organised by volunteers with the valued support of the Government of Victoria, Macedon Ranges Shire Council and numerous donors and providers of services.
