Melbourne Pet Cafés | Dogs & Cats

Melbourne loves its coffee and it loves its pets.

Combine the two and you have a pet cafe.

Pet friendly venues that welcome our furry friends, both cats or dogs.

There are now many pet friendly cafes, with new ones popping up every day, so rather than present a few in an ever increasing list, here were provide links to sites that list hundreds of pet cafes.

There is always dog friendly parks like Royal Botanic Gardens (on leash), Albert Park Lake, Abbotsford Convent plus many other local suburban parks.

Cat Cafe
Ahhh but its not what you are thinking. Unlike dog friendly cafes where you can take the mut, at the Cat Cafe you visit and play with cats that belong to the cafe. An Australian has just opened one in London and is booked out for months.

The cafe is set to open in North Melbourne (pending council approval). A recent trip to Japan inspired owners Anita and Myles Loughran to bring the concept to Australia.

The cafe offers patrons the opportunity to watch and play with resident cats. However due to regulations cafe goers won't be able to pat a cat as they sip their cafe latte.

The 10 rescue shelter cats will be kept upstairs away from food and beverages and customers can pay $10 to play with them for one hour and then a lower rate per half hour longer.

Cats will be chosen based on their temperament and with help from the Geelong Animal Welfare Society and The Lost Dogs Home in North Melbourne.

Other than that, we could not find another cafe in Melbourne for cats, but if you know of one please let us know (below).

You could always head to the Blackcat in Fitzroy serving up a fresh brunch menu and local coffee by day, and craft beers, spirits, art and DJ’s at night. One of Melbourne's best beer gardens. You cannot take your cat, but can think about moogy while you enjoy delicious tucker.
