* Marooned *
MAROONED by Michael Gray Griffith presented by The Wolves Theatre Company Southbank Theatre, The Lawler 18 -28th September 2019 There are not many good news stories about suicide, but this project is one of them. Opening on World Suicide Prevention Day 2019, Marooned is a powerful and beautiful play that succeeds in its goal to raise awareness about Suicide. It was written after the death of a friend and is funny, brave, tough and most importantly life affirming.. Four souls are stuck in a waiting room in the afterlife. Their only connection is that they just tried and failed to take their own lives. They don't know how they survived, but as time slowly passes, they not only begin to yearn to go home but begin to fear that they won't. This fear will manifest into a hunger to live. But despite this insuppressible hunger they are still Marooned. Is there is something they must do or address before the gods will send them back? If so, what? The only thing they have in this room is each other. "I am very happy to endorse your script and I thank you for looking at suicide in such a different, gripping and, at times, entertaining fashion. The many questions and doubts you raise about suicide through the play are relevant and provide great food for thought. This is the best script I have read since being on the ARH Board since 2013" Greg Ross Chairman Rotary "I really loved that you touched this issue. Beautifully written I fell in love with these character's / tortured souls and I'm sure the audience will relate at some level either on a personal level or friends and family. If they could have just waited one more day, just to wait and to speak to somebody. Anybody. I will go so far as to say this play will save lives!" ~Alicia Mann Mckirdy Please note: Venue change (was Athenaeum Theatre )
