La Trobe Cottage | Open

La Trobe Cottage | Open

Historic La Trobe's Cottage, home of Victoria's first Governor and his family is open for guided tours every Sunday (October to April).

The modest yet elegant family home contains many pieces of La Trobe’s furniture and other family items. The recreated garden contains many plants that La Trobe, a keen botanist, grew on his Jolimont estate.

Visitors will learn how the La Trobe family lived in early Melbourne. They will also learn about La Trobe the visionary administrator, who played an important role in setting up the whole framework of modern Victoria.

When: Every Sunday, 2pm - 4pm (October to April)

Where: Cnr Birdwood Avenue and Dallas Brooks Drive, Melbourne 3004
(near the Royal Botanic Gardens and the Shrine)

Admission: there is a small charge that supports the Cottage
Adults $5, Concession $4, Family $12.

This is a National Trust property. Open Days are organised by the Friends of La Trobe's Cottage.

NOTE: the Cottage closes on days of extreme heat; and on the Grand Prix weekend in April.
