John Wardle Architects | Somewhere Other
JOHN WARDLE ARCHITECTS
John Wardle Architects' Somewhere Other is the product of years of practice by the Melbourne-based firm, manifested within a compact yet powerful work of architecture.
Created with artist Natasha Johns-Messenger and filmmakers Coco and Maximilian, the project embodies elements that are a hallmark of this practice; a passion for working with artists, storytelling, and the power of space to elevate the senses and transport people emotionally.
This installation invites visitors to look through five portals housed within a timber and steel structure. Experiencing the project, visitors walk around, through and into a series of interconnected timber volumes, voids and apertures, each framing a 'portal', a film work or intentional reflection that provides the viewer with a different experience in each instance.
The work was first exhibited as part of the 16th International Architecture Biennale of Venice.
