Hotel NestSouth Melbourne has a long publican history and it is just about to get more famous with the addition of Hotel Nest.
Described recently as a 'Luxo Pub' and a finalist for the new hotel of the year, Hotel Nest takes the traditional corner pub and elevates it to another level all together.
Whether it is a home away from home, chi chi cocktail bar, good restaurant dishing up delicious dishes or a function room for only the most fun and fashionable parties, Hotel Nest manages to be all this, and elegantly too.
Headed up by Michelle Mathews and her partner Rene Maddalena, together this couple brings a new lease of life to a much loved Australian institution. The Pub.
' I am really inspired by the versatility of the hotel as a complete hospitality hub - whether it is for a morning hogarden beer while soaking up the sun, or a birthday celebration for 100 people, the modern hotel can be all this and more'.
Hotel Nest is divided up into 5 main areas including cocktail bar, public bar, function room, private dining/conference room and the soon to be launched, very exciting garden inspired 'Green House' which is being designed by Interior Designers, Hecker Phelan & Guthrie (HPG). Due to open late October, this will become the bar of choice for fashionable local types; think 'Madame Brussells by the Beachside' enthuses Michelle.
As a gourmet pub with a capital G, The Hotel Nest Restaurant seats 70 people and offers good food at reasonable prices. Not professing to be fine dining, Hotel Nest never the less has an impressive team of chefs cooking up a storm behind the scenes. Led by newly appointed Head Chef Sam Hikori.. Hikori is currently working on a new spring menu which will be launched mid - late September 2008.
Every Thursday night the popular cocktail happy hour from 7-8 p.m. at Hotel Nest takes place and is already proving to be a great success. Hotel Nest also has an international beer happy hour every Thursday and Friday from 5-7p.m.
Bartenders happily muddle and shake cocktails from the traditional to the exotic, not surprisingly the cocktail lounge is gathering popularity, particularly among the ladies.
A female friendly front bar under a colour candy striped awning, the front bar is a welcome respite for the thirsty and those looking for a restorative drink.
The front bar is famous for its hamburgers and the classic ploughmans lunch is delicious and substantial too, with home made pates, terrines and local produce.
Live music is often part of the front bar scene and is where AFL football player, Russell Robertson often takes up residency.
Good looking function rooms are waiting at the top of the Hotel Nest stairs to surprise and delight party people. Festooned with bird cages and bright soft upholstery, the Hotel Nest function rooms have proved to be a popular venue already for those wanting a space with a difference.
Another option for those looking for a more intimate dining setting or perhaps corporate entertaining presentations the dining room extends the Hotel Nest entertainment facilities.
