* Glen Eira Storytelling Festival 2018 *
The 2018 Glen Eira Storytelling Festival has more than 40 events for all ages and interests. Heading into its eighth year, the Festival reboots for 2018 with a breathtakingly fresh new digital work. The Storytelling Machine - a stunning interactive digital art exhibition for all ages - will open the Festival and will continue to grow and unfold with every visitor's contribution throughout the 18-day event. The winner of the 2017 Victorian Premier's Design Award for Best Digital Design, The Storytelling Machine allows audiences to draw figures or create text, and feed them into a custom-made photo-booth. The Festival, which will be held between 21 June and 8 July at various locations across the City of Glen Eira, has a star-studded line-up of renowned writers, artists, experts and entertainers, including: Aussie rock'n'roll icon Tim Rogers; award-winning writer Melanie Cheng; comedian Tony Martin; actor Lawrence Leung; 2018 Archibald Prize winning painter Yvette Coppersmith; novelist Arnold Zable; living legend Uncle Jack Charles; journalist Jenny Valentish; children's Treehouse series author Andy Griffiths; and magazine guru Jackie Frank. Children will be delighted by a fun program including illustration workshops by Horrible Harriet and Mr Chicken creator Leigh Hobbs, 10th anniversary concerts by ABC entertainer Lah-Lah and her band, and an evening of magic and mayhem at Elsternwick's Library's After Dark. Gaming enthusiasts will receive a souvenir VR headset gift from an afternoon of virtual reality adventures, with a workshop and demonstration event by the cutting edge Art of Play Games designers and developers. Antiques Trail will also return with a new panel of experts, including a valuer, gemmologist and conservator to assess whether your treasured family heirloom might be worth a bob or two. Storytelling is how we connect as a community. Join us as we share our tales of identity and our relationships with each other and the world.
