Galleries of Remembrance

Galleries of Remembrance

The Galleries of Remembrance are set in a cathedral-like underground chamber beneath the Shrine, with permanent and special exhibition spaces integrated between the memorial's original red brick foundation columns.

The vaulted ceiling and handlaid columns create avenues and intimate display spaces, no two of which are the same.

Over 800 objects, photographs, uniforms and works of art illustrate the experiences of Australians at war and in peacekeeping operations, from the 1850s to the present day.

See the evocative Gallipoli landing boat, lay a poppy on the Rolls of Honour or discover untold stories of Victorian service and sacrifice using pieces of family memorabilia rarely seen by the public.

The Shrine of Remembrance is open from 10am to 5pm daily except Good Friday and Christmas Day. Last admission to the Galleries is 4.30pm. Admission is free. Group bookings are essential.
