Join the party | Wednesday 13th March, 2019 | Federation Square Hosted by Formula 1, Federation Square will come alive with the free Formula 1® extravaganza as all 20 drivers and all 10 Team Principals along with legends of the sport, will participate in the live stage show, bringing the heroes of Formula 1® to the public for the first time in the sport's history. This free event gives fans the chance to engage with teams and drivers as they as they take part in a live stage show, bringing the heroes of Formula 1® closer to the fans. Fans are invited, to watch the teams and drivers arrive and walk through the iconic square, recreating the famous Melbourne Walk, which is one of the symbols of the race at the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit. The event will be supported by an entertainment line-up featuring local music acts adding to the vibrant atmosphere ahead of the Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix 2019, hosted at the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit, from 14-17 March. The Formula 1® Season Launch event will be the biggest celebration of the sport in Melbourne outside the four-day spectacle at the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit. For the latest information | Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix 2019 MELBOURNE TO HOST FIRST EVER F1® SEASON LAUNCH EVENT To mark the start of the 2019 FIA Formula 1 World Championship, Formula 1® has announced Melbourne will play host to the inaugural season launch event on Wednesday 13th March, ahead of the Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix 2019. Taking place in the pulsating heart of the city, fans will have the opportunity to see all twenty drivers and ten team principals descend on Federation Square, all together to open the season for the first time in the sport's history. The free public event, organised in partnership with AGPC (Australian Grand Prix Corporation), has been especially created for fans to engage with teams and drivers as they participate in a live stage show, bringing the heroes of Formula 1® to the fans. Fans are invited, to watch the teams and drivers arrive and walk through the iconic square, recreating the famous Melbourne Walk, which is one of the symbols of the race at the Albert Park circuit. The event will also be supported by an exciting entertainment line-up featuring some of the sport's legends and an array of music acts, adding to the vibrant atmosphere ahead of the race weekend. The event will also be streamed across Formula 1's social platforms to ensure fans across the world don't miss out on the action. Global partners Rolex, Emirates, Heineken, DHL and Pirelli will also be supporting the launch, hosting a variety of activity for fans to take part in. Grand Prix party planIMAGES of Formula One cars will be projected onto the Federation Square facade as the biggest start to the Grand Prix season in history is staged in Melbourne this month. The DJ for pop star Justin Bieber's will be among acts performing at a Melbourne street party thrown by F1 to officially launch the season. And an F1 cinema night will be staged at Federation Square, days after the world's best F1 drivers embark on a 'Melbourne Walk'' to greet fans at the free public party on March 13. US DJ Tay James and Aussie hit maker DJ Young Franco will headline the Melbourne F1 Live party with local DJ Mimi Velevska. Young Franco said the free public event would bring an added roar of F1 excitement to Melbourne. 'I am so excited to be performing in front of all the fans at the Formula 1 Season launch event at Federation Square,'' he said. 'What a way to kick off the event week festivities.'' Fans will have the opportunity to engage with all 20 drivers and team principals during the parade through the city and on stage at Federation Square from 5 to 6pm at the season launch. A one-off super screen airing of popular documentary Formula 1: Drive to Survive will be played at Federation Square on March 16, with fans able to listen with wireless headphones . Executive producer Paul Martin said it would be the first time the program, featuring Aussie F1 star Daniel Ricciardo , was aired for an outdoor audience. 'This is the only chance Aussies will get to experience the thrill of the gripping Formula 1: Drive to Survive highoctane 10-part series from Netflix on the big outdoor screen, exclusive to Federation Square in Melbourne,'' Mr Martin said. NSW tourism chiefs courted controversy when they beamed images of horses onto the Sydney Opera House to promote The Everest horse race last year. But F1 big wigs hope the images beamed onto Federation Square on the Saturday night before the main Albert Park race will help bring a slice of the race's excitement to the city.
