Stonnington City Council Travel the world in just one day at Flavours The annual Flavours festival celebrates culture, traditions and heritage from around the globe with a day of live music, performances, cooking demonstrations, food and craft stalls. Date Saturday, 16 March 2019 Time 3 pm - 9pm Location Greville Street, Prahran, Victoria Cost Free event Food Enjoy Greek treats by the punk princess of pastry Anna Polyviou. Join Greg Hampton from Charcoal Lane for a cooking demonstration that heros native ingredients. Music The world stage will be full of high energy live music from acts like Black Jesus Experience who are an eight piece band that blends traditional Ethiopian songs with contemporary dance grooves. Joined by Romanes Canes a seven-piece party band who explores a unique blend of Gypsy, Arabic, Bollywood and Turkish music with Balkan/ Fusion style arrangements. The Melbourne-based band's members have come from places like Turkey, Macedonia, Serbia, Hungary and Russia to take you a high energetic world music safari that will get you up and dancing. South of the River Choir bring their community choir that celebrates diversity and harmony through a shared passion for singing. Under the direction of Annemarie Sharry, the choir explores the music and rhythms of Africa, traditional African American gospel and original Australian compositions. Expect high-energy, interactive hip hop, from Indigenous Hip Hop Projects (IHHP), who are a unique team of talented artists in all elements of hip hop, media, entertainment and performing arts, who have been working extensively in Indigenous communities around Australia since 2005. Tama Tatau are Linked through their Samoan traditional tattoo (known as Tatau), and will show off their passionate Samoan dances. Bringing a mixture of pop, RnB and a selection of global First Nations sounds, is DJ KYAANZ, the dancefloor-ready emergence of Trawlwoolway artist, musician and curator Kalyani Mumtaz. Fun Kids can enjoy the free Foost cooking classes starting at 3pm (commencing every half hour until 6.30pm). Make bliss balls with native ingredients and learn about fun healthy food. Purchase sweet treats, handmade crafts and exciting culinary samples from market stalls and food vendors. Chill out with ambient tunes curated by locals Greville Records as you enjoy your tasty treats. Enjoy the local flavors Don't forget to drop into the local businesses and see what they have to offer. Change to road access and conditions Works associated with the setting up of the event will commence at 6am on Saturday 16 March and finish at the latest 12.00pm on Sunday 17 March. Parking spaces on Greville Street between Porter Street and Izett Street, and Grattan Street from Greville Street to Glass Lane, will be reserved for event use from 3:30pm on Friday 15 March. In order to manage the event safely for both residents and visitors, the following alterations to traffic flow will apply: Full road closure of Greville Street, Prahran between Izett Street and Porter Street at the following times: from 6am on Saturday 16 March until 12pm on Sunday 17 March Full road closure of Grattan Street, Prahran between Greville Street and Glass Place at the following times: from 6am on Saturday 16 March until 12pm on Sunday 17 March The following roads will have 'Local Access Only': Grattan Street from Commercial Road Occupants of the lane way that runs off Greville Street and is adjacent to Grattan Gardens and the Aesop store will have no access to their driveway from 6am Saturday 16 March to 12pm Sunday 17 March. Alternative parking arrangements will be made for occupants directly affected by these changes - exact details to be advised closer to the date The event runs officially from 3.00pm to 9.00pm on Saturday 16 March and there will be an increase level of noise in the area. At all times the event organisers will be required to keep the noise to a reasonable level.
