The series, which started in October 2019, features local authors chatting about their latest books, followed by Q & A sessions where guests can sip, savour and converse. Next up is Miles Franklin-shortlisted author Favel Parrett with her third novel, There Was Still Love, on Tuesday, 19 November, at 7 pm. For Prabir Majumdar, Wine 1160 owner, there's nothing better than people bonding over great food and wine, which was the reason he started the cosy neighbourhood bar over two years ago. 'I saw a lot of disconnect in the community, and I wanted to bring people together,' says Majumdar. 'I wanted to create more than just a regular wine bar and restaurant more of a community hub where people could relate and connect. 'We started the storytelling series with our local bookstore Jeffrey's Books to inspire people to share stories. We also hosted The Next Chapter, a successful speed-dating-for-books event recently, where guests brought along their favourite books to discuss over drinks. It's been really special to see the positive response to both events.' Prabir says the storytelling series is also the perfect opportunity to introduce guests to Wine 1160's new seasonal Italian menu. Signature dishes include the delicious Crystal Bay prawn spaghetti and ricotta gnocchi, with everything'from the bread to the pasta'made by hand on premises. Provenance is really important to us. We always use free-range produce from local farms as we want to know where all our ingredients come from.' It's this passion for connection that drives Wine 1160's ethos'providing five-star food and wine service in an unpretentious, relaxed environment. 'It's a home,' says Majumdar. 'When our guests leave, we want them to feel like they're leaving their family's house after dinner.' Whether you choose a communal table, a banquette along the wall or a cosy couch, Wine 1160 is the perfect venue for you to sit back, relax and soak up the atmosphere over a glass of wine. The 160-bottle wine list features predominantly vegan, organic and biodynamic wines from small producers. Majumdar selects wines that have interesting stories to tell. 'I love sharing the stories behind our labels. It's about giving people the opportunity to access small, maybe unknown producers because trying them is very important.' Guests can book in for the author event or experience Wine 1160's fine wine and new menu via the website www.wine1160.com or by calling 03 9191 7884.
