* FareShare Winter Appeal *
Every year, 2 million Australians will experience hunger. But, over the same period, we'll also waste 200kg of food for every man, woman and child in the nation. This doesn't make any sense. But Melbourne food charity FareShare is doing something about it by rescuing surplus quality food from supermarkets, farmers and other businesses. With the help of 700 regular volunteers, FareShare cooks this food into 25,000 free nutritious meals for Victorian charities - such as soup vans, homeless shelters, food banks and school breakfast programs - each week. We do this in Australia's largest charity kitchen, based in Abbotsford. Donations Please help us turn hungry mouths into smiling faces in Victoria. All of our cooked meals are given to charities for free to serve up or hand out to people who cannot afford three meals a day. For every $100 donated we can make and distribute another 200 meals. You can simply make a donation to FareShare. Or you could consider giving to FareShare in a range of other ways. For example, many employers now encourage workplace giving, where a small proportion of your pay is donated to a charity (some even match your contribution. Or you could even put FareShare in your will. Donations can be made online, over the telephone, by cheque or by Electronic Funds Transfer. A tax receipt is sent to all donors. Where will your donation go? FareShare does not receive regular government funding to cover the costs of our operations. Your donation will help us to collect surplus food from supermarkets, farmers and other food businesses. It will also pay for the cost of running our kitchen, and then distributing food to hundreds of Victorian charities. We are fortunate to receive pro bono support from many businesses - helping to cover the costs such as maintenance of commercial kitchen equipment, packaging and offsite food storage. However, we need to raise money to keep our six refrigerated vans on the road every day, pay for electricity to run our ovens and coolrooms and employ chefs to oversee nearly 100 volunteers a day. urban seed Yes, you can donate over the phone! To do this, please call 03 9428 0044.
