Chantel de Latour: Rooms with a view
Rooms with a View examines the relationship between interior spaces and the landscapes beyond them.
Painted from locations across Paris, Arles, Milan, and New York, the works focus on rooms, corridors, archways, and architectural thresholds that frame outward views.
Moving between urban and rural settings - from hotel lobbies to open fields - the paintings consider how different environments are encountered through interior space.
Doorways, windows, and passages function as points of transition between private and public realms.
The works are informed by travel and an interest in temporary rooms - spaces that are briefly occupied yet shape how places are remembered.
These interiors become sites of observation.
In Rooms with a View, looking itself becomes central.
The viewer may be positioned inside or outside the space, but is always placed at a threshold, between arrival and departure.
