RHSV Lecture: Bush Nursing with Susan Priestley
EXPLORE THE LEGACY AND PRINCIPLES OF BUSH NURSING: 1910-1995
Join author and historian, Susan Priestley, for a lecture exploring the establishment and growth of bush nursing across non-metropolitan Victoria.
Priestley's commissioned history of the first 75 years of the Victorian Bush Nursing Association, published in 1987, preceded the wind-up of the Association by nearly a decade. Earlier this year, Priestley had the opportunity to review her work for a medical history conference; this lecture is an extended version of that paper.
In the light of the ongoing political debate about the provision of health care and health funding in Australia, it becomes clear that some of the underlying principles in the establishment and growth of the Victorian Bush Nursing Association across non-metropolitan Victoria, and the interplay of people's lives with the changing circumstances of their communities, illustrate aspects of the wisdom to be found in history.
