HOT RODS AND COOL RIDES
Australia's coolest hot rods, custom cars, street machines, muscle cars and motorcycles will descend on the historic Royal Exhibition Buildings this Australia Day weekend for the Victorian Hot Rod Association's 55th annual Hot Rod & Cool Rides Show. Get up close and personal with hundreds of head-turning vehicles in all their gleaming glory as they compete for a huge prize pool of more than $50,000. There will be indoor and outdoor displays, exhibits, forums, awards and activities for the whole family. Doors open 10am-8 pm on Saturday and Sunday and 10am-6 pm on Monday. Details: hotrod.com.au
Bairnsdale Speedway's fifth race meet of the season kicks off at 5.30pm at 120 Deptford Rd, Granite Rock. Classes racing include Late Models, Standard Saloon Super Series 1000, SDAV Rods, Mini Sprints and Limited Sportsman. Gates open from 1pm, and canteen facilities are available onsite. SHOW & SHINE AND SWAP MEET
Spend Australia Day at the Wonthaggi Rec Reserve where the local Tyrepower will be hosting its annual Show & Shine and Swap Meet to raise funds for the Wonthaggi Football Netball Club. Gates open from 6am for stall holders ($10 a car) and 8am for the public ($5 entry, under-15 free). There is also a cruise night from 5.30pm on January 25 followed by dinner and drinks at the reserve. Details: Kris Baker 0400 899 991.
AUSTRALIA DAY MOTOR SHOW
Vintage clothes and cars share the stage at Ballarat's Australia Day Motor Show, which will feature displays of collectable cars, motorcycles and trucks as well as a fashion parade of style throughout the decades at 11am and 2pm. Don your best period clothing and bring your collectable car to Ballarat Greyhound Racing Club from 9am-4 pm. Entry is $10 for cars and $8 for public.
FEBRUARY 1 & 2
LONGWARRY HERITAGE TRUCK & VEHICLE DISPLAY
The Longwarry Heritage Truck and Vehicle Display is a showcase of trucks and vehicles 25 years and older at the Longwarry Recreation Reserve in Collett Street from 9am. Look out for vintage vehicle displays, entertainment, Sunday market and swap meet, plenty of activities for the kids, and on-site catering. Entry is $5, under-12 free. Stalls $20 a site. BERWICK SWAP MEET
Dandenong Valley Historic Car Club presents the 42nd annual Berwick Swap Meet at Akoonah Park, Princes Highway. GRAMPIANS RIDE TO REMEMBER
All licensed motorcycle riders and their bikes are welcome at the annual Grampians Ride to Remember, hosted by the Ararat branch of the Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation. Registration for the 194km ride is $40 and includes a barbecue lunch and commemorative badge. There is also a free Show & Shine with $1,000 in prizes. Details: Dianne 0419 316 920 or remember.org.au
DAVID CALLEJA MEMORIAL CAR SHOW
Hundreds of vehicles are expected to turn out at the picturesque Maddingley Park in Bacchus Marsh for the David Calleja Memorial Car Show. Organisers have promised a great variety of vehicles ranging from hotrods to classic to exotic cars, trucks and bikes as well as live music, food stalls and raffle prizes. The event was established to celebrate the life of local businessman and car enthusiast David Calleja, who died in 2004, and raise money for Djerriwarrh Health Services. Gates open at 8am and admission is $5, with under-14 free. Entry for competitors is $10 a vehicle and trophies will be awarded for best car, bike, truck in their class. Details: showandrally.com.au
SMALL FORD SUNDAY
Ford fans can get their fill of small makes and models against the picturesque backdrop of the heritage-listed headquarters of Deaf Children Australia at 597 St Kilda Rd, Melbourne, from 9am. Hosted by the Rallye Sport Owners Club of Victoria, the event is one of the largest gatherings of small Ford vehicles in the Southern Hemisphere and raises money for Deaf Children Australia. SWANPOOL MOTOR FESTIVAL
Cars, trucks, bikes, tractors and race cars will compete for a $3,000 prize pool at the Swanpool Motor Festival at Albert Heaney Oval. There will be a swap meet, live radio broadcast, market stalls, along with full catering, licenced bar, wine and beer tastings, coffee van. It all kicks off from 8am, entry is a gold coin donation. PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK CLASSIC CAR SHOW
The Macedon Ranges & District Motor Club's annual Picnic Day car display is a must visit for fans of classic vintage and veteran cards, commercials and bikes. Last year's event attracted more than 2000 cars, bikes and commercial vehicles, all 25 years and older, to the picturesque surrounds of Hanging Rock Reserve. Entry is $20 a car (for display vehicles and general public) and there will be free miniature train rides, an animal farm, face painting and sack racing, plus a variety of stalls. LANG LANG SHOW & SHINE
The ninth Lang Lang Show & Shine is on again, with organisers encouraging all types of cars and motorcycles to head to Lang Lang Recreation Reserve for a great day of displays and prize giving.
