The Australian Mediatheque is now permanently closed.

Delve into moving image material from Australia and around the world

An ongoing collaboration between ACMI and NFSA, Australia's premier moving image collections.

This screen culture resource centre provides access to a wealth of audio and video content from the collections of ACMI and the National Film and Sound Archive.

From early footage of the Melbourne Cup and the landmark The Story of the Kelly Gang to award-winning animation and shorts, you can access moving image content for research, learning and entertainment.

About the Mediatheque


ACMI and the National Film and Sound Archive join forces to present a huge collection of accessible audio and video content.

From early footage of the Melbourne Cup and the landmark The Story of the Kelly Gang to award-winning animation and shorts, you can access moving image content for research, learning and entertainment.

The space contains 12 viewing booths. Each booth is fitted with up to four headsets, so you can choose to watch alone or with friends.

You can view a huge range of national and international content, including:

Melbourne On-demand digital films
Melbourne Highlights from over 100 years of Australian and international film
Australian television programs
Melbourne Video artworks
Melbourne Student and community-made short films
Melbourne Film stills and publicity materials



Location


The Mediatheque is located next to the ACMI Shop on the Federation Square Level of ACMI and is open to everyone.

Melbourne General visitors Monday to Sunday, 12pm-5pm
Melbourne Researcher and education bookings by appointment

NB. Proof of age may be required, as only age-appropriate material is made available to younger users.

Admission to the Mediatheque is free.
