RSPCA Victoria

RSPCA = Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Victoria)

The Victorian Society for the Protection of Animals was established in 1871.

The RSPCA boasts a magnificent shelter and headquarters at Burwood East, together with nine regional branch shelters across the state. Education is of primary focus to the RSPCA and the construction of a new Education Centre and development of an extensive education programme will provide the focus for further change and improvement in animal welfare.

Funding and Public Support

Contrary to popular belief the RSPCA is an independent, non-government organisation. It costs the RSPCA approximately $14 million dollars a year to provide protection and care to animals and education to the public on animal welfare.

The RSPCA relies heavily upon the generosity of the public to maintain and improve its services each year. Donations, bequests and the invaluable support of volunteers are, without doubt, the backbone of the Society.
