Midsumma Pride March 2017

On Sunday 29 January 2017, Midsumma Pride March will celebrate its 22nd Anniversary, so be sure you are there to show your colours!

Melbourne's iconic annual Midsumma Pride March recognises and celebrates Victoria's gay, lesbian, bisexual, intersex and transgender community, while remembering the road we have already travelled on this journey to equity.

Whilst we call it a march, we enthusiastically encourage dancing, singing, strutting, catwalking and voguing. The more choreographed and fabulous your group is, the more impact we can make, and the more spectacular the event gets.

Be loud. Be bold. Dress up or dress down.

2017 Midsumma Pride March

The 22nd Pride March will be the first in the parade's history to be led by a BoonWurrung smoking ceremony accompanied by a contingent of queer Indigenous peoples. 2017's March will also see hundreds of young people marching together in a momentous statement of support and solidarity initiated by Minus 18 and a coalition of Victoria's youth groups.

Witness the traditional much-loved pre-march procession by Dykes on Bikes and encounter the kilometre-long procession of Victoria's diverse queer communities as they dance, strut, sing, catwalk, vogue, placard, drag and move together in a celebration of difference, acceptance and equality.

Post Pride festivities at Catani Gardens will be hosted by Dale Woolbridge-Brown, renowned Circus Oz performer and proud queer Kamilaroi man, and headlined by Melbourne favourite, DJ Grant Cook. Attendees at Catani Gardens will see the introduction of a moment silence and vigil performance, a new Pride March tradition that pays homage to all queer peoples who have suffered violence because of their gender or sexuality. For 2017, this will be performed by Deborah Cheetham AO, celebrated Yorta Yorta soprano, actor, composer and playwright.

Whether you join the fanfare by foot or by wheel, with workmates or with family, with friends or with lovers, as ally or as queer, Midsumma Pride March is for you.

Pride March is made possible with the generous financial assistance of the City of Port Phillip.
