National Steam Centre

National Steam Centre

There are over 400 engines and associated exhibits in the Melbourne Steam Traction Engine Club exhibition sheds plus a fabulous miniature railway.

The centre is open 11am till 4pm on Saturday's and Sunday's with the miniature railway operating on Sunday's.

The Miniature Railway

The track runs for about 1km around the perimeter of the site passing the lake complete with numerous ducks and other water birds, cattle grazing on the near by farmland and museum machinery around the track.

Engines

The engines on display at the steam centre represent many years of collection and restoration efforts by the members. In addition to the engines owned by the club, a number of members privately owned engines are kept at the centre. There are tractors, earth moving machinery and industrial diesel engines as well as steam engines in the museum.

Running Days

Open Saturday's and Sunday's (except the Christmas - New Year period).
On the last Sunday each month a selection of engines are operating.

Melbourne Steam Days on the last Sunday of each month (except December) many of the engines are fired up. There are always one or two steam rollers or traction engines in steam, the stationary museum steams up, the big diesels and the vintage workshop also put on a display.

The Miniature railway operates on Sunday's (rides $2.50).
