Playgroup Victoria

Playgrouping Victoria has been helping families join playgroup since 1974.

We are run by a voluntary committee that meets monthly and whose positions are vacated at an annual general meeting. A new committee was elected on 20 March. More committee members are welcome. Please contact us on 9388 1599 country callers 1800 811 159 to find out more.

Our staff of nineteen is headed up by an executive officer and comprises a program manager, events manager, playgroup consultant team leader, office manager, playgroup consultants, editor, accountant, membership secretary and receptionist.

A playgroup is a group of babies and young children with their parent or carer, who meet weekly to have fun playing and socialising.

Playgroups are:
- groups of parents, carers and their young children who meet together regularly.
- lots of fun for children from birth to school age as they learn through play and interaction with other children and adults.
- for parents and carers to share ideas and information in a supportive environment.
- based in the community creating a sense of cooperation among local families as members share the planning, organisation and running of their playgroup.
- usually on the same day and time each week and run for two hours
held on weekdays and sometimes on the weekend.

Every week thousands of playgroup sessions meet across Victoria
held in community halls, church halls, scout halls, homes, kindergartens or wherever it is convenient for their members.

There are more than 2500 playgroups sessions in Victoria every week.
