Byteback

Byteback

Byteback is a free service, available to residents and small business owners in Victoria who want to dispose of unwanted, old and unused computers in a safe and environmentally safe way.

Byteback, an initiative of EcoRecycle Victoria, the City of Boroondara, Hewlett Packard (HP), Sims E Recycling and K&S Environmental, is the first long term computer takeback pilot of its kind in Australia.

When dumped in our landfills the materials and chemicals components used to make computer equipment can leach into, and harm, our environment.

Opening Hours
Byteback is open weekdays from 1:00 - 4:00pm and weekends from 8:00am to 4:00pm.

Who can use Byteback?
The service is free and available to residents and small businesses in Victoria.

What can I take to Byteback?
Personal computer systems including desktops, laptops, computer mice, monitors, printers, scanners, keyboards, computer power supplies, printed circuit boards, motherboards, network & memory cards, disk and CD drives.

The following items are not accepted:

Joysticks, play stations, electronic games, software, digital cameras, electronic equipment, TV's, videos, hi-fi equipment, mobile phones, printer cartridges and copiers.

What happens to equipment after collection?
After collection equipment is transported to a specialised electronic recycling and recovery centre. Equipment is disassembled into its parts (plastic, precious metals, batteries, cathode ray tubes, printed circuit boards, insulated wiring) and sent off to various parts of Australia and the world for recovery and recycling.

Tips:
Save or delete important documents or files prior to recycling
Observe safe lifting procedures. Use the leg muscles, not the back
Ensure no broken glass or sharp, protruding objects
