The Kensington Town Hall is once again open for the community and we invite you to step inside and take a look.

The grand main hall and supper room have been revived and upstairs rooms have been converted into a training space with hot desks and meeting areas.

Kensington Town Hall has a range of meeting spaces available for hire for community, business and social use.

Opening hours
9am to 5pm Monday to Friday

The venue is available for hire from:

9am to 10pm Sunday to Thursday
9am to 11pm Friday and Saturday

Who can use the venue?
Community groups, schools, businesses and individuals can hire the space for social events and activities.

There is also a permanent office space available for community organisations.

The space is available for ongoing regular events or one off events. You may even wish to hire one of the hot desks for an hour.

Background on the restoration of Kensington Town Hall

The Kensington Town Hall is a beautiful old building and an important civic space for the local community. After acquiring the site in 2008 as part of the municipal boundary changes, the City of Melbourne – with the addition of state government funding – is restoring the hall to a functional space for the Kensington community.

On 8 April 2014, the Future Melbourne Committee considered a report about the Kensington Town Hall operation and management proposal.

The Committee approved that City of Melbourne would directly operate and manage the Kensington Town Hall for at least two years, to review the best operating model at that time.

The intended uses for the Kensington Town Hall will include affordable spaces for large community social and celebratory functions, safe spaces for young people to gather, arts activities and community education and training spaces, the availability of hot desks for local organisations and micro-businesses, and no commercial spaces.

The use of Kensington Town Hall will also be available for local community groups and not-for-profit organisations on a licensed and non-exclusive shared office arrangement.
