Drama With A Difference

Drama With A Difference

Drama With A Difference is one of Victoria's leading, independent drama schools, having successfully operated for over twenty years.

The drama school is the launching pad of many successful Australian actors. We are committed to teaching aspiring actors, but equally devoted to our recreational classes.

Many of our students wish to become actors, while others are attending classes for a variety of other reasons. Drama is great for building self-esteem and confidence, making new friends, and just having fun! Some students attend because our drama classes enhance their upfront presentations at work and / or at school.

Clifton Hill & Kew

The school has two teaching spaces - Clifton Hill and Kew.

The Clifton Hill venue is situated at 3 Council Street, Clifton Hill.

The Kew venue is at The Blackbox Theatre, Preshil The Margaret Lyttle Memorial School, senior Campus - 26 Sackville Street Kew. (on the corner of Daniell Place and Sackville Street), Kew

The school has a variety of classes to suit all ages and levels -

Children (ages 7 to 12): This class is held on a Saturday morning at 3 Council Street Clifton Hill from 9am to 11am. In Term One of 2016, our children's class will be performing in The Melbourne Comedy Festival, in a stage adaptation of "The Suitcase Kid" by Jacqueline Wilson. (Adapted for the stage by Vicky Ireland)

Teenagers (secondary school students): We have two classes- One on a Monday in Clifton Hill from 5.15 - 7.30pm and another on Thursdays at our Kew venue from 5.15-7.15pm. Later in the year, teenagers also get to do performances, with the Monday class focussing on theatre, and the Thursday class focussing on Film and TV. (However, there is a cross over in both classes, with all teenagers learning the skills of theatre, Film and TV).

Adults: We have a general, recreational adult class that runs from our venue in Kew every Thursday night. Students of all ages, and from all different backgrounds, meet for two hours from 7.30pm- 9.30pm. This is very much an introduction to acting, with lots of improvisation, some script work and loads of fun!

Adult Intensive: For adults who wish to delve deeper into acting (no experience required), we offer an intensive course that works towards performances in The Melbourne International Comedy Festival and The Melbourne Fringe Festival. We are able to mix students with and without experience, by appropriate pairing in scene work. We enter the festivals with a show that has a "theme". Then, you are given a set of scenes to work on around that theme. You learn the skills of acting, while simultaneously rehearsing for performances.

Production Group: This is a semi-professional production group that performs a full length play each year. Applicants need to audition for roles and further information is available on the website.

For those who are wanting to take acting seriously, we can offer sound, ethical advice. We are industry professionals with contacts amongst all of Melbourne's casting consultants etc... However, we are realistic with all of our students regarding the acting industry.

We are equally committed to those of you who simply wish to come along and engage in drama classes for fun!
